This orchid was named after His Excellency Ivan Gašparovič, Then President of the Slovak Republic on the occasion of his visit to National Orchid Garden on 13 October 2006.

Epidendrum ‘Ivan Ivan Gašparovič’ = Epidendrum cinnabarinum x Epidendrum ‘Spirit of Volunteerism’

Epidendrum,  abbreviated Epi in the horticultural trade, is a large neotropical genus of the orchid family. With more than 1,100 species, some authors describe it as a mega-genus. The genus name [from Greek ɛpɨ, epi and δένδρον, dendron, “upon trees”] refers to its epiphytic growth habit.

Vanda ‘Nambaryn Enkhbayar Tsolmon’ orchid

This orchid was named after Madam Onon Tsolmon, Wife of His Excellency Nambaryn Enkhbayar, Prime Minister of Mongolia in 10 October 2002.

Mokara ‘Laura Bush’ orchid

This orchid was named after Mrs. Laura Bush,  then first lady of the United States of America on her visit on 2003.

Mokara ‘Laura Bush’ = Arachnis ‘Maggie Oei’  x Ascocenda ‘Tubbim Velvet’, yellow flower speckled with pale orange-brown spots.

Mokara is an intergeneric hybrid between orchid genera Arachnis × Ascocentrum × Vanda.

Renantanda ‘Akihito’ orchid

This orchid was named in honour of Emperor Akihito of Japan during his visit in 1970.

Renantanda ‘Akihito’ = Vanda ‘Manila’ x Ranantanda coccinea

× Renantanda, abbreviated Rntda. in the horticultural trade, is the nothogenus for intergeneric hybrid x between the orchid genera Renanthera and Vanda. Its parent plants are both endangered, and have separate breeding seasons, so this hybrid is incredibly rare. Because of that, it is highly marketable, and is collected by amateur and professional florists alike.

This orchid is named after His Excellency Matti Vanhanen, Prime Minister of the Republic of Finland on the occasion of his visit to the National Orchid Garden on November 18, 2009.

Dendrobium ‘Memoria Princess Diana’ orchid

The Princess had been due to see the bloom on an official visit in September 1997 but she died in a car crash in Paris in August before she could make the trip. The Singaporeans dedicated the flower, Dendrobium ‘Memoria Princess Diana’, to Diana, Princess of Wales’ memory, unveiling a plaque on September 22, 1997.

Dendrobium ‘Mozah Bint Nasser Al-Missned’ orchid

This orchid was named Dendrobium ‘Mozah Bint Nasser Al-Missned in conjunction with the visit by Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al-Missned, Consort of the Amir of the State of Qatar in 2009.
