The Princess had been due to see the bloom on an official visit in September 1997 but she died in a car crash in Paris in August before she could make the trip. The Singaporeans dedicated the flower, Dendrobium ‘Memoria Princess Diana’, to Diana, Princess of Wales’ memory, unveiling a plaque on September 22, 1997.
