Junonia almana: Peacock Pansy butterfly


The Peacock Pansy [Junonia almana] is a species of nymphalid butterfly with average wingspan of 54–62 mm [2.1–2.4 in].


Junonia almana is found in India and Southeast Asia, and eastwards to China and Japan.


Shown in this photo is dry-season Junonia almana.

Seasonal polyphenism: It exists in two distinct adult forms, which differ chiefly in the patterns on the underside of the wings; the dry-season form has few markings, while the wet-season form has additional eyespots and lines.
