Ruellia simplex: Desert Petunia

Image

Ruellia simplex alsso known as Desert Petunia, Mexican Petunia, Florida Bluebells, Mexican Blue Bells, originated in Mexico, Carribean, Brazil and Argentina,  will do well in any soil. It is somewhat invasive so small plants need to be weeded out occasionally if you don’t want them to spread.  They are attractive to butterflies and love full sun; more sun, more blooms, all year round.

Large flowers are usually funnel-shaped ending with five, spreading lobes. They are produced singly.
