Pachystachys spicata: Cardinal’s Guard

Pachystachys spicata or Cardinal’s Guard is native to South America is an ornamental shrub.Leaves are glossy green with prominent veins, oval shaped. Flowers  opening in clusters along an erect terminal spike with overlapping green leaf-like bracts; bright red, a tube to 5cm [2inches] with two central lobes and 2 protruding stamens.
